Erin’s post talks about deals on car rental agency car relocations. Great idea if your travels fit those criteria.

I used a more normal route to save. Today I used a company called AutoSlash.com to book a car for my Canada trip and I saved a lot of money. I read about the website on a financial message board I read that has mostly savvy, well-to-do people who live good lives but save money, too. So I feel completely comfortable using the site.

Originally I booked directly with Alamo. The rental cost for one week for an intermediate-size car was $644 Canadian Dollars. Collision damage coverage which I’ll probably need (will check with my insurance) is $29.99/day. Ouch!

AutoSlash came up with a Hertz car booked through Priceline. Same location (airport), same size vehicle, free cancellation for only $345 Canadian. I booked it, no CC required. Collision damage waiver is a much more reasonable $11/day.

Just an update on my car rental through autoslash.com. It worked out great. Total cost was $321 Canadian $, so $246 U.S. $ for one week. Unlimited mileage. Vehicle was a 2019 Chevy Equinox through Hertz by way of Priceline.

Although my car insurance said I was fully covered in Canada, at the last minute I did take the collision insurance for $11/day, so $77 U.S. through the separate insurer Allianz (well known name). I probably didn’t need it but it did give me piece of mind.

I need to research if car rental coverage is part of my cc. I don’t have an “elite” cc so kind of doubt there is coverage but will check. ( I will not be renting a car on my trip to Montreal next year.)
