Daily Check In February 4, 2023

Post by HappyDaze »

Good morning and happy Saturday! After a bit of a restless night (could have been worse) I have been up for about an hour. Dogs have been out - it is BRUTAL out there! My hot coffee is sure tasting wonderful this morning.

It is grocery shopping day - as soon as daylight starts to show itself I am going to get ready and drive round the corner to the store. Not sure what my plan is - it's hard to plan with prices what they are - I have a few things on a list and I'll see what is on sale/markdown.

Other plans for the day include making a soup and I found some kind of steak in the freezer that I may cook for the kiddos - I bought it with the intent to cook it for my parents and never did - and I am just not up to cooking and delivering food to my parents on a regular basis -- let my sister worry about it since she lives on their social security - and I will do a meal here and there as I feel up to it.

I want to stop by the library too and put a deposit on a couple of craft workshops I'm signing up for. People were registering and not attending so now there is a $5 deposit for all classes - but you get it back when you show up.

I am off to gather up some warm clothing and pour another cup of coffee. Take care, have a wonderful day and stay warm!

Good morning fellow frugalites,

I think we might have turned the corner on the temperature for a bit. It is a balmy -2C (29F) and with the windchill feels like -7C (19F). That isn't to say that winter is over here as the day I go up to see my specialist it is once again falling below seasonal. Also with the nicer temperatures arrival today snow and rain are forecast. Not good at all.

Very short to do list today so I may just get out to that second hand store and check out the winter jackets.... I am hoping that there is something my size that I like and would wear.

If I do not find a coat this will be a no spend day. Heck, even if I do find one and it is within my allowance I will be paying cash and it would still be a no spend day. I kind of count my allowance as being spent on the day I get it. Mind you I managed to put quite a bit of last weeks away in my savings envelope. I use that collection to purchase craft supplies like yarn, fabric, and things for my Cricut.

Because of the short household task list I hope to bake those cookies today and perhaps make a start on a few more lists of things I would like to accomplish. I plan on making a list of things to do around the house this year for maintenance, what plants to look for to get the best bang for my buck, seeds we need to purchase, and another list of items to ask the boys if they want any. As you can tell, I love me a list of any kind.

Supper tonight will be the leftover stroganoff served over rice this time I think.

Today I am grateful for the warmer weather and the sunshine.

Everybody have a great day. Take care.

Good morning all.

Woke up around 12:30 and rolled back and forth until about 2:30 and finally got up. Was up for about 2 hours and then went back to bed; finally getting up at 7:00.

Woke up to 1 degree; it is now 2 degrees Fah. Tomorrow is expected to be in the mid-40s.

Have done about 1/2 hour of exercising so far. Earlier this morning, I pulled out a coloring page and was working on that. I have to pull out my sewing box as I have a seam on my nightgown that needs repair. Not sure what else I will be doing for the rest of the day.

Tonight will be a hamburger and vegetables for dinner.

Well that's it for now. Have a nice day.

Good Morning,
Sun is out but it is 19 F. It is supposed to get up to about 40 and almost 50 tomorrow.

I have a lunch scheduled with the group of friends that DDIL's Mom pulled me into. We have not gotten together in about a year, so this will be nice. I have a short shopping list, mostly non-grocery so I can put it off. I do need to gas up.

I ended up mopping my little kitchen floor yesterday. I knocked a bottle of Peppermint Bark Rum Chata off the top of my fridge and it broke the top. I salvaged part of the bottle contents. I still get faint whiffs of the peppermint bark. Of course last night I sipped a bit of the Rum Chata.

I also have been struggling through drinking some coffee that DS2 got me for Christmas. He gave me samples of three flavors from a roaster near him. This last type is lighter than I prefer. So yesterday I ground some darker beans (my everyday beans) and mixed them in. Much better.

edited to add, I need eggs, so I might have to find someplace to get a loan.

Have a great Saturday,
Maggie

Good morning friends.

I slept well. My arm is a bit sore from the shingles shot but nothing terrible. I did take a Tylenol PM last night.

Thinking about Jackie’s jacket outing, one of my primary ways of saving money is that I keep my clothes for a very long time. My favorite jacket which I reach for 95% of the time is at least 28 years old. I bought it shopping with my uncle H and he has been gone for 28 years. Of course I don’t wear a jacket nearly as much as those of you in the north.

I’ll gather and print out all my tax info today and maybe start on it. I always used TurboTax until last year when I sold some stock and would have had to buy a more expensive version. So I found a free one on IRS (can’t remember the name) and liked it. So I’ll probably use it again.

I finished the puzzle and took it apart and will return it to the library next week. I’m going to start on a puzzle (4 mid-century modern house illustrations) that I started before Hurricane Ian but took it apart when I evacuated to the hotel. I bought this puzzle for my last birthday.

Stay warm all of you in the frigid north!!

HD and Jackie, it sounds like you both are letting your bodies speak to you on the getting better andhealing thing, which is good.

JGomez, what a pain for you to have to g through all of that again!

Logics, we just have been channeling each other. I went to bed at ten thirty and woke up at two thirty-read, snacked and journaled (I think I woke out of hunger actually) and went back to bed till 8

Florida, I hope your arm is okay and the side effect minimal, and Sandi, I am thinking of you

Today it is cool but sunny and we will have a high of fifty six this afternoon. Pretty sure the precip is gone so I can do an outside walk this afternoon. I need some sun on my face.

I cheated and had four thin mints for breakfast (the rest will go to coffee hour tomorrow). Food is leftovers all day to day, meatball casserole and veggies for lunch and leftover garlic brown sugar chicken thigh with whatever side for dinner. I did lose some more weight this month and I have been walking alot but my diet has not been what it should so we will see what happens when they pull my blood on Wednesday.

While I am not an "Oh me" type, I made a list (probably to be picked up tomorrow) of things for the week and its a quick hundred bucks. Eggs, frozen veg, frozen sausage, atkins protein shakes, atkind cookies and diet coke (im sure there are a couple other things in there). Over my max of 75 a week. I may have to adjust it with the eggs and the protein added but I really don't want to. I have meals for the week that include beef stroganoff, tilapia and hush puppies, tuna noodle casserole, a chicken casserole as well as meals in the freezer. I will go in person to the store either today or tomorrow and check out the mark down meats considering the freeze.

Today once I spend my allocated half hour or so on my cleaning project (one of the advantages of apartment living), I am going to sew my fractured squares together into large fourteen inch ones after thinking about it. That leaves some large solid squares in between but I will quilt the devil out of them so they will have alot of pattern. Then I am going to start painting my landscape quilt, and read one of the many books on my kindle and knit. I had thought to buy the new Jane Harper and break my spending, but the reviews are not quite as good as I would expect, so I was not tempted and will order it at the library.

Back later.
