Good morning,

I have been busier than an entire hive of bees. Trying to spend every effort sifting through MIL/FIL's belongings, throwing things away, putting like items together, making huge bags of donation items, trying to clean that dusty old house. I am worn to the bone but I can see I am just about finished with what I can do. I have been putting so much effort into getting it ready for our own estate sale and trying not to become sour about the fact that I am doing entirely ALL the work to make this happen with absolutely ZERO help from the retired sister-in-laws who just can't seem to come into town. Found out that my BIL will be the one who will come into town to do the estate sale but wants to do only ONE DAY, on a Friday. Neither of the SIL's will bother with it (too busy). I suspect a one day sale on a Friday will virtually sell nothing as most people are bargain hunting on the weekends. Like I said, I am trying not to become bitter about it and trying to think that the SIL's are just too freaked out to deal with this and have basically "checked out" of the whole thing and dumping this in our laps. I am going to make this sale happen and then I am going to call the Union Gospel Mission and have them come haul away the rest and be rid of it. It is all I can do at this point. I have been spending so much effort and time on the main house getting it put together than I am starting to neglect my own home.

I have been so busy but I have put together a menu list for the week. I have really used up a lot of food in the freezer and am going to have to start to hunt around for meat bargains maybe next week. I went to bake a sausage quiche last night and the youngest daughter showed up with her boyfriend and said they were having problems with his car. Hubby went to check it out and found they are starting to lose a head gasket in the engine as he could see water mixed in with oil on the dipstick. Those poor kids don't have the money to send that old car in to be fixed and the car isn't worth that much. Hubby went down to the auto parts store and got fresh oil and a can of something that you pour into the engine that is supposed to fix (temporarily) a leaking head gasket. I hope it works. They changed the old oil and poured the can of motor fix in it, gave that old car a blessing, and told them it is all he could do for now. It was about that time I realized that my quiche should have been done and I ran back into the house to find it a little too brown on top but still edible. Darn it all! Oh well. The kids left and went to run errands and I made a salad and Hubby and I ate dinner.

I get paid tomorrow so I sat down early this morning and caught up on my ledger and banking and made sure everything matched the way it is supposed to. I don't have to be to work until 11:30 this morning so I am going to take a load of donation items to the Mission. It is going to take a couple of trips so I will do some today and also next week. I sure am tired but am hanging on, just got to get over this major hurtle and get the house emptied and then we have to take stock and decide what remodeling we are going to do before we decide to move in. Taking it one day at a time! Take care everyone :)

jckitty wrote: Thu May 17, 2018 8:23 am Good morning all,

Up with the alarm, I can tell it is Thursday because my weekly energy level is slowly going down. :(

I have the chickens out, fed and taken care of, a load of laundry going with a second load to follow....will dry on the lines.
Supper planned for a tonight, pork chops, sweet potatoes, veg and watermelon.
Making my grocery list for the weekend, but really hope to get the second freezer defrosted and cleaned out first. That will just leave the freezer at dads to do.

It is cooler with a lot less humidity this morning, will get a morning walk in and hoping dad will also. He took himself to town yesterday ....again.... this is good, as he needs to get out and around. He is on a nacho kick for lunch...has tried 3 different rootbeer stands in his quest :D What makes this funny is in his younger days he wouldn't have dreamed about trying nachos let alone looking for good ones.
He did the same thing years ago when I first dragged him to a Chinese buffet, mom was always game to try new things...dad not so much. But once he tried it we were going back at least once a week, so much so that the owner would greet him by name and flirt with my dad. My dad has always been a "looker" and still is for being 90.

Seriously considering buying an air fryer...dad loves French fries but not oven fried/baked and I don' have a deep fryer nor do I think I want one. I know Jackie has one, wondering if you can use it to "fry" donuts also?

Off to get busy again, have a great safe, and appreciative day all,
JCKitty
Sorry JCKitty, you can't use the air fryer to "fry" donuts. Well at least the Actifry can't. You can't do battered soft textured fish in it either. But it does make really good fries and other items as well with just a tablespoon of oil.

Update

Finished shopping and everything is scanned and put away. I am enjoying a cup of coffee and a bit of reading before moving on to the next to do item.

It is sooo windy out that I am not sure I will be able to finish planting today. I will see if the wind dies down a bit this afternoon.

Off to read and then get back to work after my morning exercises.

Hi frugals -
Same old, same old here. Straightening up things and cooking. Spent yesterday on paperwork and bills - I don't know why I dread that chore but I do. I am cooking ahead today - pot of beef stew in the crockpot and have a 2nd one going with stew beef that I will freeze and use later for beef and noodles. Dinner tonight will be the lasagne I made the other day. That will give me five meals for the freezer as well. We will have the stew reheated tomorrow for dinner.

Hubs is golfing. He is going on a golf trip this weekend. It is his 70th birthday Sunday and I was going to give him a big party - but then this trip with his golf buddies came up so that will be his birthday gift, along with new golf clothing. He gets to do what he loves and I don't have to work myself into a coma - so win, win for both of us. Not to mention Sunday through Wednesday of next week totally to myself. If I can keep up wth my plans, I am hoping to spend most of that time kicking back and watching movies and embroidering. Of course, I will have to throw the ball quite a bit as Abby is broken hearted when her Daddy is gone.

So ends another enthralling tale of life on the prairie. Have a great, frugal day all.
