Good Morning frugal friends,
I got my bathroom cabinet packed up. I guess I need to start on my clothes closet. I need to do some purging.
Glad to see Florence is losing strength, but it still looks nasty.
Have a great day,
Maggie
Daily Check in Sept 13, 2018
Re: Daily Check in Sept 13, 2018
Good Thursday morning all,
I have new windows. All double with gas inside and hurricane impact glass. Because I went with aluminum frames rather than vinyl, they were a tad more expensive. But the impact glass is the real killer cost. But I told hubs that I was getting too old to lift plywood up on the windows. I didn't have the converted garage window done or the 2 bathrooms. Since that area is not conditioned, the double gas makes no sense in the garage and it is easy to get to for boarding up. Same with the tiny bathroom windows.
One of the downsides to going with aluminum is a limited, 10 year warranty. I could get a lifetime with vinyl. The problem with lifetime warranties is most companies don't last a lifetime. They either get bought out, change their name or go under. So, I don't give much credence to lifetime. I only have about 20 years, so I am good for the years I can most likely see and enjoy the view.
This completes my professional list for the year. This year, I got a new driveway, new kitchen floor, porch repaired, house painted, insulated and new windows. I had a couple of beers last night to celebrate.
Today, my neighbor goes to get her drivers license renewed. She is nervous. She says the eye doctor says she sees fine, but from the way she drives, she doesn't. And she must suspect something to be so nervous about it. So no walk today.
Today, I will continue on my sugarcane transplanting. That will use up my outside energy. Yesterday, I got stung by a little hornet. Just accidentally rubbed against a flowering plant while trying to get a hose. It is annoying this morning, a bit itchy. I iced it immediately and it was ok.
I see a couple of spots where the house paint got dinged during the window installation. So I will plan on spot painting when I paint the wood on my tool shelter. Dry weather will eventually arrive.
Today, I will continue to put things back. The window people had to have everything away from the windows. So furniture was piled in the middle of the room and of course, away from the exterior window area. Finally, I can put up my planting table and take the front of the house plants out of pots and plant them.
Today, I am grateful to have all my major goals done for the year. Now to go visit New Orleans and get hubs cataracts done. Have a good day everyone.

Re: Daily Check in Sept 13, 2018
Good morning fellow frugalites,
I feel much better this morning and more inclined to get things done. I started to feel ill after my morning walk yesterday. I had a headache (that lasted most of the day even with OTC meds), was slightly nauseous, and very, very tired. I did get most of my list completed but did so in fits and starts. Not my usual let's get cracking manner. Hopefully today will be better.
The sky is overcast today so hopefully we will get some rain. Cold/freezing overnight temps are coming very soon so I think I will pick all the tomatoes, peppers, and perhaps even the melons today. Probably instead of taking my morning walk. Then it will be bill paying time, bank ATM visit, and picking up some items at WM and the grocery store (just bought enough milk and such on Monday to see us through until today).
One thing I did manage to do yesterday was some sewing on oldest DS's quilt top. I have a bit more to do and then I need to decide what I want to frame/edge it with and I will have the top completed. I also need to search my stash for backing material and what I would like to use for a binding. It might not be done before I leave for my aunts, but close enough that I should only have a couple of days work to do on it when I get home.
Frugal happenings here will be the usual. Walking/picking the garden for exercise, shopping with an eye to quality/price and place of manufacture. This buying Canadian is not one to save cash on. Wow, never really knew how inexpensive buying from the United States really was until now. Take coffee for instance. Buying the most inexpensive brand of coffee we import from the States is Folgers and on sale we can get it in a rather large canister for $5.99. Buying coffee that is roasted, ground, and packaged in Canada is anywhere from $6.99 a pound on sale to $11.99 a pound when not on sale. This package is about 1/3 the size of the Folgers canister. Just one example of why my grocery bill has gone up. I will say that the more expensive coffee does taste much better.
I have some jeans that oldest DS sent back with me. I will be cutting those apart today to make suitable quilt squares at some time in the future. There are two shirts that will be cut up as well. They are beyond repair. Then there are a bundle of dress type shirts I would like youngest DS to try on. He always needs dress type shirt (couple pairs of dress pants in there as well) for his job and these are perfectly lovely.
Supper today will be Spaghetti and meat sauce. I will make the leftovers into a baked spaghetti before I leave on Sunday and Hubby can have it for a meal while I am gone.
Today I am grateful to be feeling much better.
Everybody have a great day. Take care.

Re: Daily Check in Sept 13, 2018
I am slowly catching up from my trip to California. My pain is almost constant. I saw the Nurse practitioner yesterday. I need a steroid shot but we have to wait until after the nerve conduction studies. That is scheduled for Oct 2, I have an appointment with my primary care Dr 10 days later for a follow up appointment to discuss the nerve conduction study.
I have laundry to do today. The first load is in the dryer. The second is in the washer.
I finally unloaded the dishwasher I have started to reload it.
I still have a lot of pain, which is very exhausting. The ice and heat do help. The Tramadol is helping me be able to sleep some better.
Our current weather isn’t helping. We are expecting some sort of tropical depression this weekend. They don’t know if it will form into a tropical storm or hurricane before hitting the Texas coast.

Good morning all,
Slept much better, I am very happy about this as I have been feeling totally worn out by about 8:00 PM.
Temps are supposed to be going up again but I don't think we will reach the 90's, I am hoping those in the path of the hurricane stay safe.
I wonder how close it will be to Jen (Sage Alley?) Hopefully they are far away from it.
I hope to mow the yard today, I will take my time and quit when I feel tired. I think it is slower growing so that is a plus....
Clem, I have found that in the case of death in a family, it seems to go to extremes. Either the family becomes very tight knit or they splinter into unexplainable factions. It is very sad to see.
Have a great, safe day all.

Re: Daily Check in Sept 13, 2018
woke up to sunny skies with a few clouds and now that is gone. All gloomy again
What a weird September.
It will probably rain more today and the weekend. Blah
Not sure what will get done. Fridge needs to be cleared out. I'll make sure to do that.
JCKitty - thanks for remembering Jen. Hope she is doing well.
Don't know what will happen to this family. They are all adults, but still. Sad to see.
