Good morning fellow frugalites,

I managed to finish the baby blanket last night, so I can finally get back to working on the goal list.

Today will be one of getting ready for next week, as well as crossing a few (hopefully) items off the baking list and the goal list. Since the oven will be on for our Sunday dinner I may as well fill it right up.

This is not an envelope week at the church so it will be another no spend day. I will continue with my usual frugal practices once again today. I also need to send an email to see if in fact we actually do have a council meeting on Tuesday of this week. I am really hoping not.

My lists will be made up this morning this will include not only my daily chores but some a baking list, a grocery list of perishables for the holiday meal, and anything else I can manage to put into list form (I do like my lists).

The bags of donations need to be put in the car so I remember to drop them off on Tuesday when I go for a haircut. I decided against listing my tops on the garage sale sites here in our city. I don't need the hassle right now. I will continue to clear out my closet today as well. I haven't reached 500 items decluttered this year and I am going to push a bit more to see if I can actually reach a bit closer. I am kind of struggling on the declutter/simplify front. I do need less in my life but I am getting to the point where the struggle to remove items is getting harder. I am hoping that using things up (like the many bottles of lotion I seem to have collected) will help kick start next year's decluttering cycle.

Supper this evening is going to be Meatballs in mushroom sauce. Plan on serving these over noodles. I think I will make asparagus as a side and perhaps some corn.

Today I am grateful that I still have a few days before Christmas to get some baking completed.

Everybody have a great day. Take care.

Good morning ...
In the 40s and the clouds are supposed to clear out today. Could use a little sun.
Another day of doing a bit of this and a bit of that. Have some paperwork to take care of among other things.
Last night's brisket was good, but the recipe was a bit bland. DH and I agreed that it could use a package of onion soup mix. Tonight will be corn chowder, partly to use up some potatoes.
Jackie, I go in fits and starts on decluttering, so I'm impressed that you've accomplished what you have!

Good morning all.

It is a nice, sunny day here. Not sure of the temperature but it is warm inside my house and I’m planning to wear shorts.

I’m planning to meet my friend at Starbucks later this morning and then do a few more Christmas cards this afternoon. I remembered mom’s former neighbor who now lives in Georgia. I need to add some of these people to my list so that I’m not as disorganized next year.

Really I’m just going to relax today, listen to music and read a bit.

Enjoy your day.

P.S. Kitty, did you see the Sunday Morning piece on Sears? It blames poor management, specifically Chairman/owner Eddie Lampert. Totally agree! Greed. Sad and pathetic. (Yes, the business journalist in me comes alive at times.)

Good Sunday morning all,

I went to the Post Office to drop off the holiday cards and the line of cars trying to get into the parking lot stretched into the street. I made a u-turn and went on with my planned shopping. I will dribble the cards out over the next few days from my box.

It was a rainy, chilly day yesterday, but I went over to Home Depot and got some cap stones for my new patio wall. While I was there, I assisted a couple who were looking at cinder blocks considering them to hold up the poles for a family event today at a public park. They asked about the weight and I told them how light the blocks were. After discussion, they concluded these would not work.

Today, I will put on the cap stones and fill the new planter wall with leaves and mulch. I think it will be pretty. Also today, I will put the wood shutters back up on the north windows. We are expecting a couple of cold days. I love being frugal and not using heat when I don't need, yet staying warm is frugal.

Today, I will wipe the bucket that collects the waste water from dishes. Despite scraping off excess grease with a spatula and wiping it with used coffee filters, there is still a fine layer of grease that comes off most dishes when washed with hot water and soap. Instead of being in the house pipes, it collects on the sides of the bucket. Then I can scrap it into the garbage after a few days. The entire process is frugal and reduces potential clogging to the pipes. The plants in my dishwater tub outside don't seem to mind the dishwater. Right now, coleus is growing and looking lovely. Snapdragons in the spring.

Today, I am grateful that I am not entrapped by the wrong minded, commercialism of Christmas. Every day, I find something nice to say to a stranger. I stopped a woman in the parking lot and told her that her hair color looked great. She beamed. That is what this holiday should be about. Being nice.

JackieLou

I try to get rid of something every day.

I finally found a person that needs new flooring so I will give them the 8 or so bundles of laminate flooring I have and didn't want. Why the COD bought it? Who know

I was at one of the dollar stores the other day and a young man was returning two full bags of shampoo. Seems his MIL gets into some kind of frenzy and has to stock up and he has to bring them back. About 80 dollars worth of dollar store shampoo.
