Daily Check-in January 10, 2019

Post by alliesmama4 »

Good morning. I am up early again due to insomnia. I have slept for 2 hours and I am bright eyed and bushy tailed. I do not get it..

Yesterday my aide and I went out and did some stocking up and running errands. Dropped a trunk load of recyclables off. I drove because she had already run errands for me the day before and unless I need to go to the Drs office usually once a week is my limit. We are expecting accumulating snow starting late Friday and then snow off and on over the week-end. Still not sure of how much because the storm is still pretty far out. I bought almost everything I needed for extended bad weather and then some. I do need to go in to town today and buy some sunflower seeds and corn for the birds and the squirrels. I have bird seed but it does not have as many sunflower seeds that the birds seem to prefer and the corn will help them as well as the squirrel. The squirrel, Dennis the Menace, is a pain in the summer since he ate my garden but he is one of God's creatures and with the deep snow he will not be able to find food for a while. He did look cute yesterday sitting on my deck in a large flower pot eating some of the bird food I had put in there for the birds. I am a softy that is for sure..lol.

I am actually looking forward to the snow. I love snow and have always loved to watch it fall and the way it blankets the ground and trees.. so beautiful. It will be even more enjoyable since I do not have to go anywhere and with it being on a week-end a lot of people will be able to stay home and be safe.
Have a safe and frugal day. Janet Alliesmama

Good morning everyone,

Dh has an appointment with the shoulder specialist this morning. He has been making amazing progress in increasing his strength and flexibility since his injury so I know the doctor will be very pleased. He can actually do push ups now. Still a bit of niggling pain especially when he sleeps on the injured side but really good progress. He refuses to take any pain medication except for Advil and uses hot water bottle to provide comfort.

I am looking forward to a free sampler through our Fun Active Babes group. This month it is “ water walking “, which I assume is a type of water aquatics/exercise. Hmm just means I must wear a bathing suit and I loathe getting my face wet/water up my nose!

Aside from the above will just be catching up on things at home. May try to remove more snow from our back deck just to keep the back entrance clear and accessible.

Good morning fellow frugalites,

There seems to be an upward trend in temperature, which is a good thing. I need to run errands today and would much rather not freeze dashing in and out of the vehicle. Really what I am calling a dash now is more a very slow and deliberate walk. No way am I going to fall again.

Once errands are completed it will be home again to work on my to do list. It isn't that long so I should be finished in plenty of time.

Goals will be worked on in the afternoon and evening. I am hoping to get one completed and another at least half done. The yarn youngest DS got me for Christmas is knitting up nicely and I am sure that one skein is going to make a full pair of mittens. I have 4 skeins, so after the mittens are done, I will look for a pattern for fingerless gloves and a nice head band or two.

I looked at my goal list and wow, how on earth did I ever figure I would get everything completed!!! I have a tiny bit more on the prayer shawl, and then I am pulling out the sewing machine to work in the afternoons. There is quite a list of sewing needed doing and I keep putting it off. Keeping my fingers crossed that I manage to get 75% of the list completed.

Frugally speaking, I have made my list from the weekly fliers, found a couple of coupons (for toilet paper and freezer bags) and will shop the unexpected sales as well. Trying to lower the grocery budget is an adventure in getting the best deal possible. Something that I am afraid I have let fall by the wayside. That is going to change ASAP. I need to get fuel for the vehicle as well. Still have half a tank, but with gas so low (under a dollar a liter) I will fill up.

I will do my treadmill walk shortly. Since I will be in the city for an overnight this coming week I will not be able to walk that day (mammogram early in the morning) so I am going to walk every day this week in order to take that day off (and probably the next). I do feel much better after doing so. I think I have hit a plateau weight wise, but the inches are still coming off which is a good thing. Now just to get rid of the fluffy middle.

I think I might stop in at the library today as well. See what new books they have available and perhaps stop at the Dollar Store to see about large plastic bags to put the knitted prayer shawls in.

Supper tonight will be the leftover ham casserole and I will make a salad to go along with it. The extra stew from last night is packaged and cooled in the fridge, so I will take it down to the freezer when I go for my exercise.

Today I am grateful the long range forecast is supposed to be nice for the beginning of the week.

Everybody have a great day. Take care.

Good Morning frugal friends,
I am making my to-do list for tomorrow to harvest the fruits of my 10-hour days, with tomorrow and Monday off work. Although there is an all-hands web meeting tomorrow with some big announcement - rumors of a re-org, that I think I will join at 2:00 PM. I have Monday to do finish up as the list if getting long. I have my Mammogram scheduled for Monday. hopefully they won't need follow-up this year. It seems every other year they call me for a follow-up.

Not much else exciting going on. It is cold and windy here. We too are expecting snow this weekend. I have material to whip up a quick strip quilt if I feel like being productive.

Have a great day,
Maggie

Good morning all.

I feel SO much better this morning because I slept for nine hours. I was really dragging yesterday by the end of the day.

I was able to return the iPad cover to Target and receive a gift card. I would have preferred cash but a gift card is better than nothing.

My friend and I enjoyed the presentation on the economy. Our area is doing well but has hardly anywhere to grow since our county is 92% built out and we are surrounded by water on three sides. (This makes me think I’m smart to hold onto mom’s house.) They compared our area to other medium-sized cities and LittleMiss’s area is another one that scored very high.

Today I’m “free” so will go to mom’s house. There were not a lot of leaves when I was there on Sunday but like DG’s area there are probably more now and I’ll rake. I’m glad that the neighbor on one side had the dying oak tree removed last year so no leaves there.

The roofer set up the appointment to collect my money tomorrow afternoon. I asked for the final amount including new wood and it is about $500 less than I thought (worst case scenario) so I’m happy.

Have a good day.

Good cold Florida morning all,

Today, I will likely turn on the heat for the first time this season. I added the plastic to the inside of most of the windows as well as a layer of towels and on the north, the exterior shutters. Today, the high will be in the mid 60's and the low tonight will be back in the 40's again. All and all, I am pleased with the performance of the house in cold conditions. Hubs had his wool blanket on his bed last night. He was toasty. I was fine too.

Today, I will go to the big Walmart. I need softener salt and they have the best price by a dollar a bag. I will pick up a few necessities and then drop by save a lot for the rest. I'll end at Home Depot where I need more washers for the shutters. I don't know what happened to them all. A multiple stop shopping as inspired by Jackielou.

Yesterday was a bit of a tussle with the foot doctor. He would like to see us in 2 months. We declined saying everything looks stable and the co-pay costs seem an unnecessary expense. I got the feeling he likes the money a lot. But we remained resolute. We would contact him if the need came up and thanked him for excellent service. Actually, it wasn't 'that special. Hubs made all his transportation arrangements for his upcoming operation. We have transportation through our insurance and I am no longer familiar with Tampa. This will be less stressful for me.

The online FB discussion on cooking and reducing electrical cost concluded with an Aussie saying that she uses induction stovetop cooking. I read up on it and decided while it might reduce electrical costs, the high watt demand feels like it would be excessive for my old house circuits. So I will stay with my electric stovetop burners. A much lower wattage demand.

We are supposed to warm up a lot this weekend, so I will wait on putting up the rest of the shutters. Next week is supposed to plunge us into winter for 3 weeks. Time to thaw a whole turkey and prepare for crockpot meals of turkey with yummy fixings.

Today, I am grateful for an insulated house. Have a good day everyone.
