I picked up eggs yesterday - one dozen for $.99. I love deviled eggs and make them quite often for snacks. I like mine simple, I boil the eggs for 8 minutes, put into an ice water bath and they peel so easily. I mashed the yolks, add a tsp of white wine vinegar, enough Kraft Mayo and yellow mustard to make a creamy mixture, a little black pepper, don't add salt to mine because of low sodium diet and chill for an hour. I then put into a ziplock bag and put back into the shell half. Sprinkle a little paprika over the top and enjoy.

I wouldn't be going back to that restaurant. That type of sandwich would not have cost more than $10.00 at any nice restaurant in my town.
Unfortunately we do live in a high cost of living area. Still, I thought it was pretty outrageous!

Your recipe sounds pretty much the same as mine. Though I haven't made deviled eggs in a long time, I've enjoyed a ton of them. They are my mother in law's specialty! When I was losing so much weight, I was trying to eat a lot of protein to make up for it and she made these for me often. Bless her sweet heart. I don't know what I would do without her.

Had lunch at cheesecake factory the other day and their pork belly appetizer cane with four sliders that had coleslaw and fried pickles. Admittedly closet to twelve bucks rather than eight. Had that plus cheesecake and a drink and it c as me to 25 with tip.

I can eat eggs in any form
We've paid that much for two people as well. Many times. But as you said, the value has to be there. It wasn't as far as I was concerned. But hey, I chalk it up to live and learn!

I bet you were flummoxed. Nothing you can do but ride it out - but $4.00 per egg? Wow.

I just bought eggs about 1 and 1/2 hours ago - a dozen large was 79 cents. My best egg dish is called German Farmers Breakfast. It is diced potatoes with green pepper, onion, bacon, cheese and eggs. OMG so good and so filling.

Making deviled eggs - I put the cooked yolks in my food processor and whirl it a couple of times until they are fluffy. Add mayonaise, a small square of mustard, sweet pickle juice, sugar, salt and pepper. Whirl again. Sorry - no amounts, I do it by taste. I like my eggs sweet not bitter. When I take them anywhere they are the first thing gone - never a leftover. The sweet pickle juice is the key. We don't like sweet pickles but buy they for the juice.
Oh my goodness, that is a GREAT price for eggs! I wish we had that around here, but we just don't.

The farmer's breakfast sounds delicious! I will definitely have to give that a try. I'm like you - if it's something I make a lot, I don't follow a recipe, I just go by taste. I think of recipes as more like 'guidelines'. But I always make my own adjustments.

floridacatlover wrote: Sat Jan 12, 2019 1:13 pm Wow, $70 for two is beyond my limit. My friends and I go to some nice places and my share us no more than $21-$23. This is no more than once every other month.

I don’t eat a lot of eggs, mostly for cholesterol purposes. But I bought a dozen recently for .93 at Aldi. I like them scrambled or, if I’m splurging, for French toast.
Mmmm...French toast. I haven't had that in a while and it sounds delicious! Maybe tomorrow for breakfast...

And these were just CHICKEN eggs? yeeesh.

I buy eggs as close to pastured and organic as I can get. Since my Kroger store closed, I can't get pastured, anymore. Organic cage free at Aldi's is about $2.79.

There is a huge difference in taste over regular eggs.

I know everything in Cali is more expensive Randamax. But that egg price is pretty standard around here. For a 3 week period or so before Thanksgiving Aldi's was selling them for 29 cents a dozen. Now that was a great price. I guess being in the Midwest with all the chickens does pay off sometimes.
