uses for wood ash

Post by Dgflorida »

With winter almost over, those of you who have a fireplace probably have some wood ash. I have a little from my pit and I read a variety of ways to use it. How do you use wood ash?

Depending on what wood we have used (scrap or decent logs) we would have different uses. Mostly though we use it in the garden.

I put mine in my fertilize distributor and distribute it over my back yard. I water it down good and that is the only thing that I've used on the grass since DH died. The back doesn't look as good as the front, it will suffice. I have a clean out of the ash storage under my fireplace so I can accumulate quite a bit during the winter months and remove it in the Spring. It has a metal door that opens into my garage and I can easily load it into the distributor from that location.

We put some on the garden and dug some into very poor soil behind a retaining wall. It improved the soil a lot.
