Good morning all. Can't believe that the last time I was here was on July 1st. Time is moving past so quickly.

Overcast and very humid day. Haven't looked at the weather yet so I don't know if we're due for more rain or not.

Good news. My mom used to play the Take Five lottery game so I decided that I would keep it up on the 1st week of every month. I bought my ticket a bit earlier that week this month. Senior Center had another trip to another casino that Tuesday (7/10) and I told my mom she was going to be my lucky charm. Unfortunately I lost $10 that day. The next day decided to finally check my Take Five ticket a bit early (had another day left to go on it) and found that I had hit for just under $1000; so it turns out that my mom was my lucky charm after all. I know I've put more than that amount in the lottery over the last 30+ years, but it's nice to be able to play on their dime for a while.

Things here have been relatively quiet and that's good. We're still worried about the direction in which my niece is going financially but she won't listen so unless the proverbial brick hits her soon, we don't know how she'll fare by the time she's in her 60s.

The baby is doing really well and putting together sentences that I am sure we couldn't have when we were his age. The internet kid videos certainly have impacted his educational growth and he is fascinated with numbers. He can count up to 100 and count backwards from 40 and he's 2-1/2. And some of the words he is putting into sentences we're not sure where he's learning those from. We're hoping that his learning will continue and that he doesn't become distracted with video games down the road or worse.

Have been having a difficult time as of late trying to stick to my weightwatchers program, but I have been keeping up with my extra walking. I know I will again though.

Well, hope all are well. Have a great day.

Good morning

We've had a good soaking rain, the first in a long time. It was badly needed, but too bad it had to happen on a Sunday.

Since the rain was coming pretty well straight down, i was able to be out on my balcony and got my unruly tomato plants propped up with some stakes. i have one almost ripe tomato. none of the others are showing any signs of colour.

Our seniors group has been evicted from our premises. We have found another promising location in a not-for-profit seniors apartment building. (it's in another neighbourhood, unfortunately.) We had our AGM on Friday and I am now a member of the board. There is a lot to be done in a few short weeks if we are to make this work. This morning I was looking up "memorandum of understanding" to get a sense of what we have to be looking at in a partnership with the other organization.

haven't heard much from the new owners of our apartment building. they did put up their fancy sign on our front lawn, then chopped down a cedar tree so the sign would be visible. I would be more upset about the tree, If I wasn't confident from what I've seen at their other properties, that they will be re-landscaping our whole front lawn and planting new shrubs and trees.

don't know if my usual Sunday-go-for-coffee friend will want to go today. If not I will call another friend who has a coffee shop in her apartment building. She doesn't get out a lot in hot weather because of COPD. In any case i will get out this afternoon and do something.

Going to have raw veggies, bread, cheese and an apple for lunch. Supper will be a bean wrap with some plain greek yogurt and avocado.

hope you all have a good week ahead.

Take care,
AnneX

I am somewhat dizzy this morning, but my balance seems OK.

My Daughter had told me last night she didn’t think she could come today, but she surprised me this morning by coming. She took me to Walmart, I was able to walk there. She showed me the Guacamole she buys, I bought a package the box has 6 individual servings, perfect for someone who lives alone. While we were there we walked around the store. Somehow while I was in my apartment which has no stairs it says I climbed one flight of stairs there are no stairs in my apartment.

I also discovered that you can buy the clips to put on the plastic tube hangers. I bought a package. We will see if they work. I hang a hand towel on my shower rod to have a towel to dry my hands There is no place for a towel bar by the sink.

I also discovered a use for the little plastic springs designed to hold 2 needles together. I didn’t like the way they worked so I put them aside. They are perfect for keeping the clip from sliding. So they are now being used.

By the time I got home I no longer felt dizzy.

Good afternoon everyone,

Beautiful sunny, summery day here with temperatures in the mid 70's and pretty low humidity - just perfect. We haven't had to use our room air conditioner in over a week. Drawing the blinds and opening the windows and patio doors has been enough to cool the house off. I like it warm anyway and certainly don't want to have to wear a sweater in the summer. I have to do enough of that in the spring, fall and winter!

Alliesmom my dh ended up waiting for about two and a half hours at the fracture clinic so we were very glad we brought along a bagged lunch. Good news is that he doesn't require any surgery, given his age and the fact he is not holding his arms constantly up in the air, like a mechanic or carpenter. He learnt that he definitely had a dislocation but in the process of putting the dislocation back in place, he also suffered a level 3 shoulder separation. So the injury is a little more serious than we both had thought. It looks like I'll be cutting the grass for the remainder of the summer! The doctor was very pleased with his mobility and flexibility in the affected shoulder though and told him to keep up with the exercises. Just no lifting any weights or jarring of the shoulder yet. He is now fine to drive.

Our garden has been pretty productive and I've been constantly harvesting the spinach, kale, Swiss chard and rhubarb. The zucchini is coming along. I also got quite a few cherries this year since we had cut down the infected tree. The only problem is that this tree produces very small cherries, which involves a lot of pitting. Still will manage to get quite a few pies from it and made a batch of cherry chutney.

Today I cashed in 60 000 points at Shopper's Drug Mart and got a $15 gift card. Also took advantage of the 20% coupon from Bulk Barn and picked up some cocoa nibs.

Perenniel garden is looking pretty good. My strategy of pulling out a few weeds every day seems to be working.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Anne X, I am sorry to hear that about your building. It always seemed like such a tranquil place to live before the new owners started changing things.

I have been puttering around the house this weekend. Got a lot of minor annoying chores done along with the laundry, groceries and some light housecleaning.

We are about to have the daily afternoon thunderstorm from the sound of it.. Middle Dachshund, my little love bug, is curled up in my lap. Supper is going to be something simple, as we have a Newman's Own pizza in the freezer and it is too hot to do much cooking.
